Surgical experience

Sherif Kamel qualified in 2005 and has worked across UK hospitals ever since, holding a part-time post in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Coventry University Hospitals, where he also teaches junior dentists.

His clinical work spans the full range of implant dentistry — from a single missing tooth to full-arch reconstruction — alongside thousands of impacted wisdom teeth over the course of his career.

Known for his calm and reassuring approach, he takes the time to put patients at ease, particularly those who may feel anxious or apprehensive about dental treatment.

Nervous about treatment?

Many patients feel nervous about dental treatment, particularly if they have been putting it off for some time. Your concerns will always be taken seriously, and treatment will be planned at a pace that feels comfortable for you. We’ll explain what to expect beforehand, talk you through each stage, and you can ask to pause at any time.

For patients who need a little extra help to feel comfortable, intravenous (IV) sedation is also available. You remain conscious and able to communicate throughout, but feel deeply relaxed, and many patients remember very little of the procedure afterwards. IV sedation is not a general anaesthetic.

How sedation works

For referring dentists and GPs

Sherif welcomes oral surgery and dental implant referrals at both Nottingham practices. Referring clinicians are kept informed throughout the patient’s care, with clear communication following treatment before the patient is returned to your care.

Referrals are welcome for wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, bone grafting and sinus lifts, complex extractions, coronectomy, impacted canines, biopsies, cysts and oral lesions, frenectomy, apicectomy and orthodontic exposures.

What patients say

After breaking my front teeth in an accident, I became really self-conscious about my smile. Sherif completely transformed it with three veneers and an implant. I couldn’t be happier with the result. He’s given me my confidence and my smile back.

Can’t thank Sherif enough for taking my wisdom teeth out. He was really reassuring and put me at ease. Thank you Sherif.

Common questions

Do I need a referral from my dentist?

No. While many patients are referred by their dentist or GP, you can also contact us directly to arrange a consultation. A referral is not required.

Will I be awake during the procedure?

Yes. Most oral surgery is carried out under local anaesthetic, which means you will be awake but the area being treated will be completely numb. If you feel anxious or would prefer to be more relaxed during treatment, sedation is also available and can be discussed with you at your consultation.

How long does recovery take after wisdom tooth removal?

Most people experience some swelling and discomfort for the first few days, which gradually improves over the following week. Many patients feel ready to return to work after two to three days, although recovery can vary depending on the complexity of the procedure and the nature of your work.
